I'm going to hate myself for asking, but what is the difference between the
text file and the abc file? Without really digging, they both look the
same.

Since abc files are so small (typically 200 - 300 bytes per tune), why not
please everybody by duplicating them and giving the users the opportunity
to download either the .abc version or the .txt version?
