Printing with True Type Fonts - a possible solution

The TeX system converts fonts to embedded bitmap fonts when printing
through postscript.  Couldn't AbiWord do something similar?  It would
need  to know the printer resolution and font metrics.  Perhaps the user
would have to configure the resolution of a printer to make TrueType
fonts available.
