Ah, that would it explain it, then.  

Is *anyone* building libiconv 1.7 now, and if so, how?  I'm not sure whether 
we should be updating Makefile.abi (like we do for some peer libs) or using 
the configure-generated Makefile (like we do for others).  

Suggestions and/or volunteers welcome.
