As I mentioned earlier, I strongly object to the idea of working around
hard problems such as this by letting the user decide the design. This
is the sort of thing that should behave the same no matter which
computer you are using.
As Scott said "give the user what it expects". The problem is to find
out *what* she expects.
Anyway, adding Yet Another Pref is surely not the way to go here. It is
us, who are designing the program, that should solve this task - not the
user.
