I don't think it would result in a noticeable speed loss, and I once
tried to understand how it was done, but alas, time was shorter than I
needed and never again I looked into that.
But if someone puts himself up to this, then he should probably _ALSO_
get the value of $ENV{LANG} (in perl linguistics) to use, for instance,
splash-pt_PT.png
