I'm using AbiWord 0.7.12 on Red Hat 6.2 and I'm quite impressed with it. I have successfully added several True Type fonts to the /usr/share/abisource/fonts directory by converting them with the ttf2pt1 package. After rebuilding the fonts.dir, I now have several dozen fonts to choose from, and they all look great on screen. However, my newly added fonts don't print or preview correctly. They look great on screen, but all seem to get substituted with a basic Roman Serif font in the print preview. According to the email archives, people generally have problems getting the fonts to display correctly under X, but there is no mention of anybody having a problem where the fonts look fine but get switched during the preview. Could this be related to the way that ttf2pt1 creates pfa and afm files? I've looked through the files of fonts that work and those that don't and I can't see anything that makes a difference (and I've tried changing many parameters manually to no avail). Is there some mapping of screen fonts to printer fonts that is separate from fonts.dir that needs to be updated specifically for AbiWord? Unfortunately, AbiWord does not give me any diagnostic messages, it just silently switches the fonts. Note that the ttf2pt1 converted files work just fine with both Word Perfect 8 and FrameMaker 5.5.6 (both under Linux). Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
