This follows up my mentioning that one Henry in Hong Kong had
reported succeeding in installing the gtk+ (not gnome) version of
abiword-0.9.4.1-1 in Red Hat. I've now done the same. The installation
was totally routine. So, the note on the AbiSource web site that says
gtk+ has fewer dependency problems is right.

The first try or six to run abiword when in the /usr/bin directory
failed: the abiword window came up only to be obscured by an error
message saying the Times Roman couldn't be got plus a few tips on how to
get round the error. I didn't manage to use the specific tips to solve
the problem - no fonts - but took the broad hint to check the AbiSource
site again. Clicking around that after

/usr/sbin/chkfontpath -a /usr/share/AbiSource/fonts

gave

chkfontpath: error opening
/etc/X11/AbiSuite/fonts - for writing

After I added

/usr/share/AbiSuite/fonts

to /etc/X11/fs/config

abiword opened fine from /usr/bin and it works, so far although the help
file

/usr/share/AbiSuite/AbiWord/help/en-GB/contents.html

seems to be missing from my download (which came from USA, not GB.)

Hope that helps.
                           Godfrey
