Do you have to uninstall first?
Short answer, No. Long answer: You really should uninstall the old version first, we are playing it safe, but you dont really have to. The installer (or setup program as you called it) should simply overwrite the old versions. The only files installed by Abiword are in the Program Files\Abisuite directories, and there is also a file called Abiword.Profile stored in your Profile (which could be in a variety of different places depending on what version of Windows you have, but you should want to keep it so its a moot point). So you are safe enough to just delete the directories. There are a few registry keys which should not cause a problem. You could try using RegClean from Microsoft, it does an okay job of cleaning out some of the cruft from the registry if you have installed and uninstalled lots of programs. I actually have several different versions of Abiword installed, for testing purposes, but unfortunately the Add\Remove Programs in the Control Panel will now only allow me to uninstall the last version in installed. (if that does not make sense then nevermind). Just be aware of the fact that despite being really great and despite the fact that we all try really hard to make sure that Abiword "Just Works" sometimes there may be hiccups so CAVEAT EMPTOR, and always make backups, look left and right before crossing the street etc. Just be using Abiword you can make it better, share it with your friends.
