Dom is implementing an interface to plug a grammar checker into. We are investingating our options.
There is a thesaurus http://aiksaurus.com/ ive used the standalone version for windows, nice on Jared (who also maintains the website) there is a windows plugin around somewhere (try http://sourceforge.net/projects/abiword/ ) it could probably do with some testing. The developers will work on whatever they feel like working on. You can try and convince a developer to work on something, but dont hold your breath. If you want to sponsor a developer to work on something specific i think that could probably be arranged. (some of the developers have PayPal accounts).
