I wrote to Lotus about this. There is a pessimistic bug report about it which is now in Abiword Future section (or closed). Unlike the wordperfect file format there is very little documentation avialable on the Lotus Word Pro file format so you have no choice but to reverse engineer the file format. This is hard work, unless you are brilliant like Dom and then it is slightly less hard work
In terms of practical solution your best bet is to keep all your documents in Rich Text Format (.rtf) which is the best understood most widely portable document format at the current time (although OpenOffice used to make a real mess of it, this may have changed). And like Dom said, programming and compiling stuff is best kept on the developer list. Very big welcome to you who is willing to undertake this task, good luck.
