We have an Access 97 application in my office (which I inherited)
that
is used by approximately 10 people. The tables and forms are in the
same mdb. All users point to this single mdb located on an NT
server.
Also, all users have both Access 97 and 2000 loaded on their PC's.

The application uses a single form to search (using the Filter by
Form
button), edit data, and append new records, and the users have been
getting one or all of the following messages:  "Couldn't save;
currently locked by user 'Admin' on machine ..."; "The Save
operation
failed"; "Out of memory".

I'm planning to move the tables to a backend file, but my question
is,
is it really necessary for each user to have their own copy of the
front end
file (as I've been reading on some web sites)? I know at my previous
office, users all pointed to the same front end with no problems.
Also, how important
is it for each user's PC to have the same version/service pack of
Jet?
Is there anything else I need to check or modify?

I think this is the only 97 app they are using, so I also plan to
convert it to 2000 (our office will likely upgrade to 2003 soon
anyway).

Thanks,
Rick
