I think not. It probably means only that those particular instructions relating to the *beta* are no longer relevant to the *release*. What is required, for less experienced users, is an installer: <https://bugzilla.mcs.anl.gov/accessgrid/show_bug.cgi?id=1920> The installer for users of Mac OS X 10.5.x might run without error on 10.6.4 but IMO you should not expect the resulting .app to work as expected. Relating to the beta, files at <http://www.vislab.uq.edu.au/ag3/macosx/10.6/> and when I experimented today with that VIC -- in place of the one that's within the .app -- unsurprisingly, VIC still does not work (whatever appears in Dock disappears very quickly).
