Ed, These devices usually have some default firewall settings which probably need to be adjusted. They will generally have some browser based configuration tool but the different manufacturers all have their own way to describe their features so its difficult to give you precise instructions. However, look for a setting that allows (at least) incoming traffic on ports matching a port for existing outgoing traffic. Also, you may find that you'll have to increase the incoming bandwidth limit; this is often set quite low by default on the assumption that that a very high incoming traffic rate indicates a packet storm - possibly a denial of service attempt).
