Thanks Jason, but Sara in the UK replied. Turns out the problem was a half duplex network setting on my Mac. Once I forced it to full duplex the choppy audio went away. What concerned me was the other participants heard it too and their problem went away when I disconnected. This would leave me to consider that if anybody else has choppy audio problem it will affect everybody else.
