I have seen this error before and this is what I did.   Start up 
utilities->activity monitor  and force quit all python processes.  There seems 
to be a couple of processes still hanging around that causes the error.  That 
usually does the trick for me.

   Look in your Utilities folder which is in the Applications folder.
   There is an application called "Console.app" - launch it, and look at
   the output when you try to launch AG.  That's where I saw the error I
   indicated below.

      I'm having problems install the 3.1beta MacOSX on MacOSX Panther
      server
      (G4 tower).  I installed wxPython and Tcl/Tk Aqua, and then installed
      Access Grid Toolkit 3.1 beta1.  Installation seemed to proceed fine.
      However, when I try to launch, the AG icon bounces a few times on the
      dock and then quits.  The console application shows the error below.
