ArtGrid 24 hour observance event:
World AIDS Day / A Day Without Art (Video)
December 1, 2006
Established by the World Health Organization in 1988, World AIDS Day serves to
focus global attention on the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Observance of this day provides an opportunity for governments, national AIDS
programs, arts organizations, churches, community groups and individuals to
demonstrate the importance of the fight against HIV/AIDS.
With an estimated 39.4 million people worldwide living with HIV at the end of
2004, and more than 20 million people having died of AIDS since 1981, December
1st serves to remind everyone that action makes a difference in the fight
against HIV/AIDS.
To remind the public that AIDS can touch everyone and to inspire positive
action, we invite all Access Grid sites, when systems are not in use and you
have parked your node in a venue, to send black video or turn off your cameras
and send blue video. We hope that this will represent the losses to the arts,
sciences and technology communities as a result of HIV/AIDS.
If you would like, you can park your AG nodes at the ArtGrid lobby:

and observance of this day.
