(PVX is a commercial H.323 package from Polycom currently available for Windows only. I haven't actually seen it work - failed to run properly on a Thinkpad I had - but I hear it outperformed appliances at the Gigaconference last year - http://commons.internet2.edu/gigaconference)
Why post to ag-tech ? Well, on Westgrid we decided to equip rooms with H.323 as well as AG as a backup or to talk to non-AG endpoints, and maybe others have done the same ... -- Andrew Daviel, TRIUMF, Canada Tel. +1 (604) 222-7376 (Pacific Time) [email protected] ---------- Forwarded message ---------- List-Post: [email protected] Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 17:53:13 -0600 From: "David Devereaux-Weber, P.E." <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: Lobby for Polycom PVX for Apple and Unix/Linux Dear fellow videoconference users: We have been wishing for an Apple version of the Polycom desktop product (now PVX) since the ViaVideo days. I have had two more potential applications come up that would be great, if I could get PVX for Apple and Linux/Unix. So I wrote another letter to my local sales and tech folks. Someone directed me to the Polycom Enhancement Request web form. So, if this is something you have wanted too, please take a few minutes to pull together the projects where you think multi-platform versions of PVX would help, and enter them on the web page below. As you might know, it appears as if Polycom bases their decision to not support Apple and 'nix platforms based on the relative ratios of Windows/Apple/'nix in the commercial marketplace. We need to make 2 things clear. First, that the relative ratios of Linux/Unix and Apple are much higher in the research and education market segment, and second that the number of potential sales is significant. <http://eknowledge.polycom.com/media/Forms/Enhancement_Requests/FER_emailform.html> Thanks!
