Randy,

Jabber is a client/server protocol. For clients inside a firewall
there should not be a problem since the connection is made from the
client to the server. No matter how many chat sessions the user
is in, there is only one connection to the server required. (the
communication is multiplexed on the connection) For servers inside
a firewall and clients outside, there is one port that would need
to be opened in the 5000 range for clients to connect in. These
connections can be all required to be SSL if the server is configured to
only accept SSL connections. No matter how many venues the server
is configured with, there is only one port for the chat.
