At NIH we call it Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day -- at least that's what the official announcement said. I personally just use the word child.
I hope we can have a "Kids on the Grid" event next year on this day, perhaps with each participating site indicating, to the extent possible, the times children are expected to show up.
