Patna Junction has been fully developed as a disabled-friendly station
of East Central Railway (ECR). The special facilities provided by
railways for the disabled passengers at Patna Junction include a
separate booking counter, parking lots, waiting halls and toilets. ECR
GM A K Mittal is personally monitoring the facilities being provided
to disabled persons at all major stations in the zone. ECR CPRO Arvind
Kumar Rajak said access ramps have also been provided at Patna
Junction for disabled persons to board trains without hassles. Keeping
in view the basic requirement of disabled persons who mostly travel
alone, railways has already made the "May I help you" booth on
platform number 1 at Patna Junction functional round the clock. This
facility has also been provided at some other major stations, he said.

The CPRO said railways has also provided non-slippery walkway and
special signage for the physically disabled and visually impaired
passengers at Patna Junction. Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Gaya and
Mughalsarai have also been developed as disabled-friendly stations.
Railways has also introduced special coaches for disabled passengers.
ECR has attached several disabled-friendly coaches to mail and express
trains to fulfil their needs, he said.

A Railway Board official said the board has issued a directive to
convert railway stations falling under categories A1, A and B into
disabled-friendly stations. About 1,500 stations have been selected
for this purpose at the country level, he said. Railways has also
decided to build more access ramps at different stations, including
Patna Junction, and reserve parking lots for them in the circulating
areas. Low-height water taps are also being provided on platforms for
disabled passengers at all major stations under the ECR, sources said.
