A national workshop on yoga therapy to empower the persons suffering
from disabilities, organised jointly by the Society for Disability and
Rehabilitation Studies, New Delhi, and Government Medical College and
Hospital, Sector 32, was inaugurated by Professor Kaptan Singh
Solanki, Governor, Haryana, Punjab and Administrator, Chandigarh.
In his address, Solanki called upon the civil society and persons with
disabilities to take recourse to application of yoga therapy for
empowering the differently-abled. A thematic souvenir, comprising
papers contributed by noted experts and professionals on yoga therapy,
was also released on the occasion.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Rakam Singh Sandhu,
Kurukshetra University, who underlined the need to adopt yoga as a
panacea for various diseases, including all types of disabilities and
life threatening diseases.
The inaugural session began opening remarks by the honorary president
of the Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies Dr GN Karna
who stressed on the importance of exploring the avenues for
application of yoga therapy in disability management, and thereby
suggesting appropriate practical strategies for achieving the goal of
health for all.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dr Atul Sachdev
(director-principal, GMCH, Chandigarh) who sought to provide a
synoptic analysis of benefits of yoga therapy for the disabled. A
galaxy of leading experts and professionals articulated their
observations during the inauguration and technical and practical sess
