Subject: [AI] interesting collection of activities in delhi

Dear all

I was replying to a query about activities for persons with blindness in
Delhi and thought it makes a good reading. Thus providing this information
below:

Few places in Delhi:

1. Saksham: Has three physical locations for following programs:
Inclusive education preparation and support resource center; rehabilitation
and education program of Visually impaired multi handicapped children;
Infant to toddler support program for children with blindness or multiple
disabilities; Technology solution centre where aids and appliances are
provided at not for profit basis; Accessible books library including online
national library; Audio description of films
2. National Association for the Blind: Resource centre for inclusive
education and hostel for about 200 students with blindness;
Multi-handicapped Unit; ICT training facility; accessible books production
and new construction going on for home for aged blind.
3. Assistech Lab of IIT Delhi: Joint program of saksham and IIT Delhi
for preparing new solutions for persons with blindness or low vision: Smart
cane, refreshable braille note-taker, OCR stand for mobile, tactile graphic
production, city bus route number identification system are few of the
initiatives going on at this lab.
4. NAB centre for blind women: several livelihood programs are going on
in this unit.
5. Several colleges have resource centres for students with blindness.
You could visit Jawaharlal University resource centre to give details of how
they facilitate students with blindness in their courses.
6. We can also organize some interaction with a program that provides
accessible leisure activities for persons with disabilities including
persons with blindness.

Thus, there is lot to see in Delhi. Besides above we do have well organized
large scale braille press etc. call centre for the blind, Chess and other
sports facilities for the Blind, Car Rally for the blind and of course few
special schools too.

Thanks
Dipendra
