RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh has been adjudged the best state in promoting
empowerment of persons with disabilities by the
Union ministry of social justice and empowerment.
 This award is being considered to be the first best state award for
Chhattisgarh. The national award will be given by President Ram Nath
Kovind, December
3, on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities
at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

department, Sonmoni Borah said, "The award, part of the national award
for the empowerment
of persons with disabilities-2017, was announced through an official
press release on Monday. Now by nominating this it has been proven
that Chhattisgarh
has become the one of the pioneering states in taking various measures
aimed at the welfare of the disabled. Now, the state government has
also set in
motion a dialogue for formulating a policy for the differently-abled
in the state"...Regarding the key works for specially abled people by
the department,
Borah said, "works like Swayam Skill Development and Punarvas
Programme, award programmes for district toppers of 10th and 12th
standards, endowment (protsahan
rashi) for Divyangjan pursuing in higher education, reimbursement of
mess / rent for Divyangjan, cash awards for civil services aspirants
and the most
important one of the first states to work on Divyangjan adhiniyam 2016
have been implemented"..Borah said, "Besides that some rules are
already ready for
the specially abled: DBT,
Unique ID online process for certification,
mega camps for distribution of assistive devices, doubles Scholarship
money for sports, accessible websites which are in key position in
India, best work
of Divyangjan commissioner court, accessible city work for Raipur,
Braille press at Raipur, Bilaspur, Divyangjan college in Raipur,
building a friendly
atmosphere for sports and other activities for Divyangjan."..Borah
added that "it is a proud moment for Chhattisgarh that we have been
nominated for such
a prestigious national award. This is the result of the efforts of the
people and honour for the people of Chhattisgarh who have the power to
stand on
their feet after the toils and challenges.".
