You can find and download the "teaching kit" at the following addresses: French version : http://www.handicap-international.fr/kit-pedagogique/indexfr.html English version: http://www.handicap-international.fr/kit-pedagogique/indexen.html Best wishes Michael Guy Disability Information Manager Handicap International UK Waterman House, 101-107 Chertsey Road, Woking, Surrey, GU21 5BW Tel: +44 (0) 870 774 3737 / Fax: +44 (0) 870 774 3738 michael.guy @hi-uk.org www.handicap-international.org.uk www.asksource.info Handicap International, co-laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize, is an international development organisation focusing on issues around disability and inclusion. Hi, I read with interest your discussion about the tool kits and I am interested in getting some copies for our DPOs in the Mountain Kingdom. I s it possible for you to introduce us to such instruments? I have also attached an article that is intended to alert the world of Independent Living that a new organisation that cherishes the social model of disability has been born in the Kingdom of Lesotho. We have however not been able to kick off due to financial constraints. Hence would be happy if you could help us to link up with as many Independent Living Movements as possible from around the globe, especially those that could assist us in activating our dream. The organisation is composed of professionals with good ideas and fertile training in disability issues. Our only impediment is a financial back-up as we live in one of the least developed countries with very little financial muscle. Especially for lay persons like me... Without this and the UNCRPD in Plain English - things would have been much more difficult to understand and interpret in simple language. In the Monitoring tool kit you have described few group exercise that would help us to use the UNCRPD...For example - How Education/ Transport is not only related to Article on Education/ Transport but is interlinked with other articles. What I would need is similar simple exercises that we can use to involve the participants to make use of the UNCRD - may be some case study based on real life experiences and asking participants to use the UNCRPD to assist in realising the rights of persons with disabilities. For example: In India the Voter's ID Card is issued for persons above the age of 18. This ID card is not only used by citizens during elections but also as an identity card for availing Government schemes/ programmes or accessing loans from Banks or to open a new Bank account. However, persons with learning disabilities above age 18 are not issued this card - do you think this is in violation of Article 18 Freedom or Movement and Nationality and Article 29 Participation in Political and Public Life? These are some questions that come up during my session on UNCRPD....in this context...if there is any more/ new plans of developing similar thoughts further, I would be happy to part of the efforts in coming up with the may be another tool kit on 'Creating Awareness/ Enhancing Capacities in using UNCRPD'. So much for now... With warm regards Best wishes Mahesh --- C. I have read with interest your exchange with Simon Walker at the OHCHR. I was especially interested to learn that you are using the DPI tool kits for some workshops you are doing in rural India. We developed those tools hoping that this type of use would happen, we its a real pleasure for us to learn they are getting used! If you have the time I'd be very keen for any feedback / suggestions you might have based on your experience this week. Feed back from the field is very useful as we are always trying to improve and refine our resources.
