As I understand, you are using vista right? You should try formatting the pen drive in an XP PC and see if the same problem persists. You can also try for check error button which is located under one of those tabs in device property. Also if the device has a switch, you may try turning it off to make sure that it is not right protected. Hope this helps and hey, welcome to the problematic vista world.
