Disabled man hurls phone at ADM, slapped by guards
Indore: The Indore district administration’s weekly public hearing on
Tuesday turned chaotic after a disabled man allegedly threw his mobile
phone at ADM Pavan Jain, hitting him on the chest. The enraged IAS
official then rebuked the applicant in full public view and security
guards allegedly slapped the wheelchair-bound man.
No police case had been registered till Tuesday night.
Krishna Pathak, 28, of Sai Baba Nagar, who cannot use both his legs,
somehow made it to the first floor of the district collectorate where
the public hearing was being held around 12.30pm. He requested the
guards to let him meet some senior officials but they asked him to
show a registration slip to submit his application. This triggered an
argument.
“There was no escalator running and no wheelchair for a handicapped
person like me,” Pathak alleged. The guards rejected his allegations,
brought a wheelchair for him immediately and took him to the officials
who were receiving applications at the public hearing.
Pathak, who also has problems speaking as people with cleft palates
generally do, approached Jain, and tried to explain his problem. He
said he lives alone in a 15x40 sq ft home in Saibaba Nagar, which was
stated to be his decedent property but had not yet been transferred in
his name in the documents. Pathak wants to sell the property but
cannot because he doesn’t have the legal rights yet.
Enraged at not getting the attention he desired, Pathak first slammed
a thick file of documents he carried to the public hearing on the
table and then threw a mobile phone that broke in three — battery,
cover and body — and hit the ADM sitting opposite Pathak, say sources.
Jain, enraged by Pathak’s behavior, allegedly shouted at him while the
guards allegedly slapped him twice. Pathak was taken outside the
collectorate and told to leave.
While Pathak couldn’t be contacted, Jain denied making any comment on
the incident. TNN
