You may try these steps:
Press alt+f for file / office menu in word.
Press up arrow twice for word option and hit enter.
Arrow down to proofing in the category box.
Press tab once for auto correct option dialogue box and press enter.
In the first field type in the short string (such as sn for Shankar).
Tab over to the next field type the actual word, say Shankar.
Tab over to the add button and it will add this short string as a
contraction to the word dictionary.
Keep adding short strings and then hit the ok button.
