Position Description Deque is seeking a Document Accessibility Specialist that will provide robust WCAG 2.0/2.1 A/AA and PDF/UA accessibility testing, design reviews, remediation, training, and consulting for customers and internal projects. The person in this position will work directly with customers and a Deque team to deliver high-value document accessibility services to our customers. They will help customers find and fix accessibility issues and contribute to Deque’s document accessibility knowledgebase. A strong candidate for this role will be proactive, a life-long learner, and have a track record of delivering exceptional service, is passionate about digital accessibility, and has a desire to learn and grow in the field. Primary Responsibilities Perform WCAG assessments on digital document assets on the basis of WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 Level A/AA and Section 508 following the Deque Way methodology. Depending on the project, this may include: Accurately identify and clearly document accessibility issues Accurately identify and clearly document remediation recommendations Accurately remediate documents Provide document accessibility training and consultation to customers, Deque staff, and 3rd party partners Conduct design reviews on a variety of document types Collaborate with 3rd party document accessibility partners Perform other duties as assigned Requirements Minimum of 3 years of experience in professional document accessibility testing and remediation, with an emphasis on PDF and Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint…) to WCAG 2.1 A/AA and PDF/UA standards. Intermediate skill level for performing screen reader testing with at least one of the following screen readers: NVDA, JAWS Advanced knowledge of techniques for creating accessible PDFs from various source documents (such as MS Office and Adobe Suite products) Advanced knowledge of PDF/UA and PDF/WCAG testing and remediation Advanced experience with tools such as Adobe Acrobat Pro and PAC 2021 Experience writing accessibility recommendations for remediation Experience conducting training for colleagues and clients on accessible creation, testing, and remediation of PDFs and other documents Ability to discuss technical issues and recommendations Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Considering U.S. citizens and permanent residents due to client security requirements Additional Skills Experience authoring VPATs Experience with additional digital assets including: web, email, mobile applications IAAP Certifications/Credentials Accessible Document Specialist (ADS) Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent About Deque Deque (pronounced dee-cue) is a web accessibility software and services company, and our mission is Digital Equality.
