Shankar-agree with you on the importance of having essential platforms accessible.

How many businesses have started talking about accessibility all because of interventions like ours, is a known fact. For the first time in the history of CCPD two hearing of more than 100 essential private and public platforms took place in addition to all the central government ministries, and for the first time Delhi High Court (established under Constitution of India like all other high courts) ordered Rapido to conduct digital accessibility audit in itself speaks the kind of change that important interventions including ours have been able to bring about. Our team was able to for the first time bring clarity on applicability of accessibility law to private players through the Practo intervention.

On your specific disappointments about Zomato and Hotstar, let me tell you that it were these interventions like ours and India Signing Hands that moved a player like Hotstar to have first of its kind commentary which was audio described in addition to Indian sign language interpretation. And hotstar as you would know from the public knowledge is in talks with Reliance for merger. So cannot comment on the accessibility improvements but we are in constant touch with them. But mergers as you would know is beyond our control.

Zomato and Blinkit are improving although at a much slower pace than we expect them too, but talk to their leadership right from their co-founders to their CTOs and to their legal teams, they are taking proactive measures to sustain accessibility. But any large organization takes time to come up to a certain standard of acceptance.

I am not here to tell you about our work or prove our capability to bring a change, but I do expect when a person like you who knows and understands accessibility to appreciate and demonstrate patience with the kind of effort it demands.

We need million such Missions on digital accessibility to bring a change. And these changes will not happen overnight or even a short-term span.

Regards,

Amar Jain

Unfortunately I cannot appreciate the way this note was written. Where was Mission Accessibility committed that they are making said apps accessible? You seem to have no idea the hard work that Amar and Rahul are putting in to make businesses accessible.

How many emails or phone conversations did you have with these businesses? din't assume that organizations alone can do something to bring change.

Please refrain discouraging words. I know you may not like me writing this way and I'm fine with it.

I'm disappointed to see that the accessibility improvements promised by your team two years ago for digital platforms like Hotstar, Zomato, and Swiggy have not been fully realized. While I understand that legal matters may be involved, I urge you to prioritize accessibility on essential governmental websites like IMobile Pay, e-Adhaar, and NSDL. These platforms serve a wide range of users, and ensuring their accessibility is crucial.
