I am happy to report that National Association for the Blind (NAB Delhi) provided audio description during its Annual Day event held on 19 April 2025. We have devised ways in which it is easy to do and does not require much resources. It has been appreciated by many and hence I thought of sharing this with you. We now plan to provide Live AD service in all our upcoming programs. As you are aware, audio description of events on stage is not common yet in India. In institutions of the blind, where the major audience is visually impaired, it is highly desirable for making the programs more inclusive. Without audio description, the visually impaired audience does not get to know about the stage setup, actions, costumes and facial expressions of people participating in dance, plays, fashion show and other happenings on stage. WE provided a QR code to the audience using which they were able to start the Live AD on their mobile phones. Most of them used their ear phones to listen to the audio description in parallel with the sounds coming from the stage. In addition to the QR which was prominently displayed, a link was also shared through WhatsApp among those who were interested. A talking book library volunteer provided the audio descriptions during this 3 hours show. Many visually impaired who could not come to the show, listened to the Live AD at their home and said that they did not miss going to the show, they actually enjoyed it a lot. I will encourage all to provide Live audio description of events in addition to adding it in recorded movies, documentaries etc. It is a big step in inclusion.
