I have observed that despite the existence of numerous laws, Acts, and guidelines for Persons with Disabilities, there remains a significant gap in their implementation. This highlights an urgent need for reforms in key institutions such as the Office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. These institutions are funded by taxpayers with the aim of empowering persons with disabilities. However, if they are unable to bring about meaningful change at the ground level, we must question their effectiveness. My call is not against these institutions, but rather for much-needed reform to ensure they fulfill their mandate.
