I have been part of this community for a while now — navigating retinitis pigmentosa and building a life around it.
Something happened today that I wanted to share here, because this is the community that would understand what it means. Perkins School for the Blind — founded in 1829, the school Helen Keller attended, one of the oldest and most respected institutions in the world working at the intersection of blindness, education, and human independence — published a piece I wrote on their BlindNewWorld platform. The piece is not really about blindness. It is about my mother, a ligament surgery, a car ride home, and something she said that I recognised immediately — because I had said it myself. Many times. To many people. It is about what it costs a person to need things. And what it feels like, unexpectedly, to be the one who gives. I am sharing it here because it began in this community. The story was first shared on this list. The responses it received told me it deserved a larger room. This is that room. https://www.google.com/url?q=https://blindnewworld.org/what-i-see-now-writing-the-book-i-wish-had-existed/&source=gmail&ust=1782546837753000&sa=E With gratitude for everything this community has quietly given me, Rishabh Raipur, Chhattisgarh -- Disclaimer: 1.
