Hello,
Are you using a headphone during a skype session? I had to switch off the
external speakers and turned on the headphone to keep the microphone
working. Perhaps skype does not allow both external speakers and the
microphone at a time.

I have got almost the same problem. I am unable to talk on Skype. I can
hear the voice of the person on the other end. But he can not hear me.
