Computer Training For Visually Impaired SHORT TERM SUMMER COURSE About Mitra Jyothi & Enable India Mitra Jyothi is a registered Charitable Trust formed in 1990. This trust is working for visually impaired and other disabled in their Education, Training and Employment and at present our activities are as follows: 1. Talking Book Library to provide educational and general books on audiocassettes to the Blind students 2. Computer training to the Blind students 3. Braille transcription centre to provide Braille books to the needy Blind students 4. Independent living skill training to the Blind women 5. Job placement service to the disabled / and Blind Enable India is a non-profit organization working tirelessly since its inception from 1999 towards the economic independence and dignity of persons with disabilities. We cater to the needs of all kinds of disabilities like visually impaired, hearing impaired, physically disabled, mental retardation, mental illness and more across India. Our major thrust areas are employment, pre-employment services, and work place solutions, supplemental education, consulting and enabling other institutions working for the disabled. Introduction to Short Term Computer Training This is an initiative from Mitra Jyothi - Enable India team towards giving quality computer training for visually impaired people who are working or studying, and not able to attend regular computer training. Main goal of this course is to increase the candidates knowledge on Computer Basics and making them efficient in using computers independently. This will increase the employment opportunities, betterment of existing job, and for higher studies. Duration of this Training is 2 months. Course Details:- Duration : 2 Months Timings : 10:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Saturday Date : 15th April 2009 15th June 2009. Seats : 12 Premise : Mitra Jyothi Contents 1. Keyboard orientation 2. Basic concepts such as desktop, taskbar, menus. 3. Editing 4. Dialog box 5. My Computer (File/Folder management) 6. Jaws help 7. MS Word & its features. 8. Scanning Material Used: 1. Computers with a. Windows XP operating system and b. Office 2003, c. Jaws d. Talking Typing Teacher 2. Self paced exercises for each concept. 3. Test for final assessment. 4. Designed Curriculum with computer concepts and employment aspects. 5. Tactile Diagrams What you can expect from the course:- Our goal is to give quality in what we give. Participant will be able to Type and edit the document independently. Participant will be independent in using the computer for their study purpose (Scanning books). Participant will be independent in managing their folders & files. Participant will be independent in getting help from computer & learn by their own. Who are eligible? 1. Any visually impaired person, whos educational qualification should be 10th pass and above. 2. Who want to use computer skills for their education/ employment, and having good communication English, and basic knowledge of mathematics. Joining Procedure: 1. Candidates have to register in Mitra Jyothi for Short term computer course. 2. The registration fee for the course is Rs. 200. 3. Candidates have to attend the evaluation test before the training starts as per the Evaluation dates Evaluation Dates: 28th March, 3rd and 4th April 2009.
