Dear All, The developments of the hearing of the case on 26th May 2009 are as follows: 1. The railwaysgave a commitment in the form of an affidavit to comply with the orders of the Delhi High Court and fill up the backlog of 4254 vacancies ment for the disabled persons over a period of 17 months. 2. The ban on recruitments in railways imposed by Delhi High Court on 2009 was lifted following this commitment on their part with the condition that 3 persent vecancies in all recruitment advertisements of the railways will be reserved for persons with disabilities Where such suitable candidates are not found these vecancies will be left vecant. 3. This is a mejor victory for All India Confederation of the Blind which has been fighting for the disabled and the Visually Impaired in perticular through this case for nearly four years. 4. The directions of the Delhi High Court will go a long way in ensuring economic independece and employment for thousands of disabled persons in the Country.
