To mark the International Day of Disabled Persons - 3rd Dec 2009 in India send

No to Amendments,” is the writing on the wall!
 
While the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment continues to take an 
ostrich like attitude and push for Amendments to the Disability Act 1995, 
disabled rights activists from across the country were in Delhi on October 29 
and 30 at the National Consultation on ‘The Rights of Persons with Disabilities 
Act, 2010’ organised by N.C.P.E.D.P., to take their demand for a fresh new law 
forward. Dorodi Sharma of D.N.I.S. takes a look at it.

Women with disabilities refused entry into night club in Kolkota 
 
Kolkata, 09 Nov 09, A wheelchair-bound woman was denied entry into a night club 
in Kolkata in the wee hours of Sunday with the staff telling her that 
handicapped persons were not entertained.

Action plan for women with disabilities soon: Bengal panel
 
Kolkata, Nov 3 (IANS) The West Bengal Women’s Commission is planning to come 
out with a comprehensive action document with recommendations for bettering the 
lot of the physically challenged women in the state, its chief said Tuesday.

NEW DELHI: India is one of the few countries in the world where the hearing 
impaired are not allowed to drive. But this may change soon, with the  
Government informing the Delhi High Court it is considering changing its rules.

The State on Sunday got its first dedicated college for students with 
disabilities. The Sanskardham Academy Junior College in Goregaon has been set

technical and conceptual grounds”.

The Supreme Court Friday suspended a Delhi High Court order to the union 
government to provide three percent reservation in state jobs to physically 
challenged persons as per a special law that accords one percent quota for 
visually impaired candidates.
