Open volume control, go to properties.
Look for the combo box in and select input device. If only one device is
listed, select the radio button "Adjust volume for recording". Now tick the
microphone volume in the list view and hit ok.
Once you are taken to recording volume control, select the check box after
microphone volume and make sure that microphone volume is 100%.
This should solve the problem.
