An update on our income tax refund case.
After waiting for two years, I had filed an RTI asking for status of my
case. Within 24 hours of posting the letter I got a call from the Income Tax
Officer asking for more details and giving assurance of quick action.
Then I received their written reply wherein they mentioned that my income
tax refund information was not availabel in there system and according to
them I had to pay some amount which was overdue. We knew this was an effort
to shrugg off the blame of undue delay from their shoulders.
They gave a date for representation. We went there and provided all the
Income Tax Returns and correspondence done with them so far.
They said that the matter is now clear to them and they will issue the
refund soon. Today after three weeks from that meeting I got a call that the
refund has been issued.
I am very pleased with the outcome of using RTI in this case. There is a

Hello all,
I had written to the list a few days ago about my IT refund amount being
stuck with the IT office for nearly two years now. It has finally been
released, and that happen without any prompting or additional payment from
my end. It appears they are disposing all the refund applications this
month
in order to avoid paying additional interest by carrying them over to the
new year. Whatever the reason, my problem is resolved for the moment.
