Ruchi,
I learnt typing many years ago when I could see. I still position my fingers on the computer keyboard as I used to position them on the typewriter. I learnt from the best school in Mumbai- Davars College. You will know where it is. There is a software called typing tutor or something like that which others will refer you to, I have this on my computer but havent used it much. it uses the same concept. Although I would tell you that your son should learn to use all his fingers correctly, I have seen several people only use one finger per hand and manage extremely well. You may also think of getting one of the old time typists or typing schools to teach him. One of the things I learnt was to put the carbon paper correctly. People on this group may laugh but I still need this skill. I have secretaries who dont know how to use carbon paper. Now the question -why carbon paper in this day of ink jet and lazer printers. Just to clarify I have an ink jet and a lazer printer in the office but I always keep a dot matrix for court work. I need copies and more copies. It is so much more efficient.

Your son is young and his fingers will slowly settle into a rhythm. Even though I am a great fan of braille I dont recommend a braille key board. As far as games are concerned I have just managed to borrow a braille scrabble from Sam, if your son wants to play lets find some time.

Kanchan

Dear Mr Bhavani Shankar,

Actually he uses the computer keyboard at school. However, he types by the location of the key on the keyboard and not touch typing. For this reason, I thought giving him a Braille computer keyboard with those 6 keys and additional direction keys, may help speed and also encourage learning Braille. There is one such keyboard by portset. What is your opinion on this?

Ruchi

now latest version of jaws supports braille keyboard. please specify, what you think regarding braille keyboard? whether is it a same typewriter keyboard, which has embossed braille signs on it, or same computer keyboard to be converted as perkins brailler type keyboard. you may also go for additional braille input keyboard. pleas come with required specifications in your reply. better option is to learn basic typewriting on computer keyboard, within a month you will become a good typist on computer.

thanks.

Good evening!!

1. I am trying to look for a braille keyboard for the computer. What are the best Braille keyboards available? 2. Also which are the best computer accessible games for the visually impaired. I am trying to look for my 7 year old.
