Hello all,

I briefly tested these eye glasses at the RNIB yesterday. The glasses are
rather huge with a plastic frame. I could bearly keep them erect on my face.

There are two buttons on the right, one for turning on the glasses, and
another volume control-like button to adjust the distance. The vibration is
rather gentle on the eye, when compared to the effect some of the
wristband-based vibration devices have on the body. As you approach an
object, the intensity of the vibration increases. Also, the glasses seem to
fairly accurately detect objects at the set distance, although at times it
is difficult to gauge the exact direction of the object. Since the device
vibrates when someone passes by as well, it would be nearly impossible to
use it on crowded Indian streets or train stations. Also, its utility would
significantly diminish in such surroundings. I tested it in an indoor
environment where one is likely to encounter more objects at close
proximity.

For an accomplished cane user, I think this device adds little value. It may
however be useful for detecting hanging objects.

Geetha

Vasu,
Does this work on battery or do you have to carry a unit along.
also does it look like normal glasses or from a science fiction movie?

Hi,
I have seen this today at CSUN exhibition and my first impression is
awesome. It gives vibration as soon as it detects any object around you!

Thanks,

Dear Customer

RNIB are pleased to announce the launch of our new Ultrasonic Obstacle
Detecting Glasses - iGlasses (TM), developed in association with AmbuTech.

iGlasses are designed to be used as a secondary mobility device alongside
traditional aids such as a cane or guide dog. Worn like spectacles they
provide vibration feedback when you near a potential hazard at head and
chest height. When you approach obstacles such as overgrown branches,
hanging signs or street furniture, the frequency of the vibration will
increase - giving you more confidence to explore your surroundings. The
frames and arms are black with either clear or brown tinted lenses.

Priced at £79.99 excluding VAT, further details can be found at RNIB's
