Rightly said sir. It is a reality that dispite many abilities and much independence we have to depend on our sighted family members, friends and others for many things. We must prove our abilities at the same time we must value the help and assistance provided by our sighted counterparts. the only thing is that they should be made aware of our abilities and limitations humbly. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Asudani, Rajesh" <rajeshasud...@rbi.org.in>

Agree with Prateek.
However, I am amazed at the expression: "So-called sighted."?

Let us admit it frankly that having eyesight is a reality and merely because we don't have it, it does not, in any way, diminish the value of it for those who have it. To boost our ego or self efficacy or confidence, we cannot subvert the reality in the way we like.
So, I deeply deplore the expression: so-called sighted.
Merely because some persons do not make use of sight the way we would like them to do, does not make them so-called sighted......

And, I am sure barring a queer exception and that too verbally, none of us would choose to be born blind given a hypothetical choice.

We can live effectively, even nearly independently with our blindness, but it does not make anybody so-called sighted.

I have even wondered at the evolutionary significance of disabilities, perhaps it is leading us towards life with minimum of senses as we know them today and channelizing energies towards some yet unknown functions, but all this does not make someone so-called sighted. I draw analogy with vanishing tail, when it must have begun to shorten and ultimately disappear altogether, then people would definitely have regarded those with shorter tails as something queer, or perhaps disabled. But ultimately we live happily without tails. So, just maybe, just maybe, humanity is going towards a future with minimum of today's known sense organs........

But all this does not make majority of persons still having functioning sight merely so-called sighted. Sight as a sense, is well entrenched and perhaps will be the last to disappear.....

I feel the expression so-called sighted is derogatory to myriad of our relatives friends and people at large who lend a helping hand to us using their sight, whether it be for crossing the road, or just locating a fallen object.... So, please, AI Friends, please, do not denigrate others in our quest to live an effective and meaningful life.

Dear Sohan,
A visually impaired person can get degree in computer or any academic
subject in all the available mainstream universities and
institutions.
I don't know if there are any special organizations available, but I
think its better to study in mainstream system, rather special.
An argument that I give for this is that ultimately, you'll have to
work with the so called sighted people, an you just can not demand an
special arrangement at work. So, why not now? Let's face it.
I've been able to get all of my computer an other degrees from
mainstream institutions, and I humbly advise you too to go with the
same.
For any help regarding your computer related problems during academics
or otherwise, feel free to write me off the list, and I'll try to help
you best in my abilities.
