We proudly announce the release of the Nuance Accessibility Suite –
Nuance TALKS and ZOOMS – Version 5.22 supporting Series 60 3rd
Edition / 5th Edition / Symbian^3 for October 20th, 2011.

Version 5.22 is a free upgrade for all Premium Edition licenses
generated after November 13th, 2007 (the release date of TALKS 3.50
for 3rd Edition). In particular, this means that it can be installed
by any customer who is currently able to run version 4.11 or 5
without requiring a new license.

2.. Changes to the list of supported phones
The main focus in this version is support for Symbian^3 phones that
have installed the “Anna” firmware update, and removing issues
with the web browser and e-mail client on the Nokia E6-00.

After installing this release, upgrading the phone to Symbian Anna
(where available) is recommended, as it includes several
stability and performance improvements that also benefit TALKS users.
However, phones without the Anna upgrade can continue to be
used as before.

Please note that installing the upcoming Symbian Belle upgrade is NOT
recommended with this version of TALKS, as this will reduce
the level of accessibility in some applications significantly.

No new phone models are supported in this release.

3.. What’s New?
This section lists the improvements of TALKS&ZOOMS 5.22 compared to
the previous version (5.21).

1.. New version of Eloquence
This version includes a new default version of Eloquence, 6.1.126,
with two following changes:

a.. The default sample rate is again 8/11kHz (depending on the phone
model), as in earlier versions of Eloquence. However, the new
16kHz version introduced with the previous release of TALKS is
available as an alternative entry in the list of voices (for example
on the “Speech” tab in the Settings window). This way, it is possible
to easily select the audio type that produces the best results
according on personal listening preferences and the characteristics of
a phone’s speaker.
b.. The volume of the 16kHz version was reduced to avoid “clipping”
distortions that could occur when switching between 8/11 and
16kHz versions at Volume Factors above 100%.
c.. Fixed an installation error with the extended US exception
dictionary (version “enu_dct”) that would cause the dictionary
entries to be ignored.

Please note: prior versions of Eloquence that worked with TALKS 5.21
(e.g. 6.1.123 or 6.1.125) continue to be supported, so the
upgrade of Eloquence to the latest release is optional and only
required if the improvements listed above .

2.. New version of Daisy2go
This version of TALKS includes a new version of Daisy2go (2.02.1),
which provides the following fixes and improvements:

a.. Long cursor presses now work on the E52 and other phones that
didn't support them before.
b.. DAISY-fy: name of folder is now suggested as default book title.
c.. Fixed incorrect cursor position in text-only books.
d.. Fixed looping at end of a display section on 5th Edition / Symbian^3.
e.. Fixed: When deleting book from both list and memory, the wrong
directory was sometimes removed.
3.. Other changes
This section lists further changes to TALKS that were made in this update:

Application support:

a.. More reliable object recognition in Ovi Maps 3.06
b.. Labeled additional icons, such as Symbian^3 homescreen number,
calculator keys, as well as some icons in Messaging and Ovi
Maps.
c.. Menu selections in Internet Radio are no longer repeated while scrolling.
d.. Fixed excessive verbosity in 3rd Edition music player.
e.. E72: Date and appointments are read again in Month view of calendar.

Touch screen improvements:

a.. [long Vol Down] in SMS viewer simulates [Enter], to allow opening
of links from Autofind and to add the sender's number to
contacts (when Cursor Mode is "Original".

Other changes:

a.. Braille: text field of SMS messages is shown even when it is just
a single line.

Bug fixes:

a.. 5th Edition: Fixing crash when attempting to read profile name on
Home Screen.
b.. Fixed rare cases where audio device is not closed after end of speech.
c.. Worked around a reproducible Eloquence crash in French for a
particular word.
4.. Known Issues with specific phones and apps
This section lists some frequently reported known problems and
limitations that may occur when using TALKS with particular handsets
or apps:

a.. Daisy2go on Symbian Anna: after adding a new book to the
bookshelf, the application will close. However, the book is added
correctly and can be used after starting the application again.
b.. Nokia browser 7.3: opening drop-down lists by pressing [Select]
currently does not work reliably, due to a bug in the browser.
c.. Nokia E7-00: the default [Talks] key on this phone is the [Menu]
key at the front of the device. On phones without Symbian
Anna firmware, this key will not behave correctly if it is pressed
twice too quickly, or if the touch screen is used within about a
second after pressing [Talks]. It is recommended to always wait a
moment after pressing the [Talks] key on this phone.
d.. Symbian^3 (without Symbian Anna update): double-tapping on a
scroll bar may lead to a restart of the phone, especially if it
is done quickly after opening a new window.
e.. Nokia C5-03: In the List view of the main menu, no cursor is
displayed when moving around with the side keys, so the focus is
not spoken. As a workaround, use either Grid view, or explore the
screen to select menu items.
f.. Touch phones, mostly 5th Edition: Currently, some menus for
switching to other keyboard layouts and for picking suggestions
from the T9 dictionary are not fully accessible. Switching to other
keyboard layouts is not recommended on 5th Edition phones, as
some of them (e.g. mini-Qwerty or handwriting) are not yet supported
by TALKS, and can be difficult to exit.
g.. 5th Edition only: On some phones opening the symbol table in the
on-screen keyboard can lead to the keyboard stopping to take
input until you press [Exit] to go to the main menu, and then return
to the application where you were entering text.
h.. 5th Edition only: text entry into an object announced as “Fields”
(e.g. a date or a time) is not supported well by this
version of TALKS, as the virtual keyboard cannot be used with speech.
This limits the use of the Calendar and Clock applications
that rely on these types of objects for date and time input.
i.. N97: training mode will read the digits, rather than the letters,
for the keys in the top row of the QWERTY keyboard.
j.. E55: [Talks],[digit] shortcuts have been reported to not work
properly on this phone, most likely as a result of the unusual
keyboard layout. Because of this, the E55 is not considered a
“supported” phone model.
k.. 3rd Edition (FP1 and FP2): the “Search” application is not supported.
l.. 3rd Edition FP2: You will notice a slow response of voice
recognition "beep" after holding [Key 2] when TALKS is not muted
m.. E75: When using ZOOMS, moving around the screen by holding down
the cursor keys is currently not possible. The magnified
portion of the screen always follows the current focus position.
n.. N96: “Photos” application (and “Photos” submenu of “Gallery”) is
not supported.
o.. N96 (prior to 20.x firmware), N91 and Nokia 5500: Daisy2Go does
not support playback of audio books due to a missing MP3
codec.
5.. FAQ
Q: Your software does not install on my E-Series handset or branded
device, and reports a Certificate Error! Why?
A: While TALKS&ZOOMS for Symbian itself is certified, and thus can be
installed on any supported handset, the installers for the TTS
engines (Eloquence or Vocalizer for Mobile) are not signed. E-Series
handsets and some branded devices only accept the installation
of signed software, unless you turn of the corresponding option inside
the Application Manager:

a.. Open the phone menu.
b.. Open the App. Manager inside the Tools folder
c.. Press “Options”, then select “Settings”.
d.. Set “Software Installation” from “Signed only” to “All”.
e.. Press “Back” to close the Settings dialogue, then “Exit” to close
the App. Manager.
f.. Now, you can install the TTS engine.
Another reason could be that the date on your phone is not set
correctly – as Symbian apps need to be digitally signed, SIS files
can only be installed if the phone is set to a valid date.

Q: Can I install the new release of TALKS&ZOOMS, while a previous
release is active?

A: Yes, if the new version is installed to the same memory location as
the previous release. If you would like to change the memory
location, you have to remove the previous release first!

Q: Why do I get an “Upgrade error” when installing the S60 3rd/5th
Edition version?

A: The most likely reasons are that you have used a beta release, or
already have the Nokia TTS driver available that was installed
as a separate file with version 3.10. Please remove any beta version,
as well as the Nokia TTS driver or the Nuance Speech2Go Reader
application, before upgrading to TALKS 5.22.

Q: Why do I get an “Invalid serial number” error when trying to
activate a demo version of TALKS, even though I have entered the
code correctly and never used TALKS on this phone before?

A: The most likely reason is that TALKS thinks the demo has already
“expired” because the date on the phone is set incorrectly,
usually to some date in the future.

Q: Why do the side keys on my touch screen phone no longer move the
cursor after upgrading to the latest version of TALKS?

A: Some keyboard functions, such as [Talks],[digit] shortcuts on the
Idle screen and the use of the side keys to navigate through
menus on 5th Edition, are only supported after the phone has been
rebooted once after installing or re-enabling TALKS.
