A cricket match with a difference

Thirty visually-impaired young men of Delhi University will be playing
a 20-over cricket match this Saturday at Ramanujan College.

“The sound of the ball, the reaction of the audience and the
co-ordination of their team-mates is all that is needed for a good
game,” said Joint Dean of Students Welfare

Vipin Tiwari, whose idea for the match stemmed from looking after the
needs of the differently-abled students in the university, says:
“These students may be disadvantaged in many ways but they are also
talented. We wanted to promote sports activities among these students
and bring out their hidden talents.”

The match is being held by the college's Equal Opportunities Cell with
the help of the Apex Club of India which has conducted similar
activities for the differently-disabled.

Students belonging to different colleges of Delhi University have
registered for the match and have been trained by the club on team
coordination.

Mr. Tiwari added that the participants were very eager for the match
to begin. “After all, such a match does not take place everyday,” he
says.
