Yes, Harish Jee
I admit we must cooperate and at no time have I denied this.
However, when at Nagpur, I was left out, actually I deliberately did not call
out anybody to test whether marshals are doing their job properly and None of
them bothered to enquire about me even not after headcount.
When I put this in writing, my complaint was met with no action/response and
upon further enquiry I was told not to make personal complaints squarely
blaming anybody. I had not named anybody except for the designation of the
responsible authority.
Standards have been steadily falling in RBI.....

Hi

I certainly differ with Rajesh on this.

We have proper norms on this and we have designated martials on every floor. It
is his responsibility to ensure all persons including disabled are safely
evacuated.

There is a head count taken and all folks of a section have to assemble in a
designated area. There is a review at the end of each such drill and any
shortcomings observed are highlighted. I have seen many such drills in this
long career and at no time I was left out.

I do recall at Hyderabad, where we both worked, he was not left out. If it has
happened at Nagpur he should insist things are put in order rather being
complicent.

It is just important we too cooperate and don't seek any exemption on the plea
of disability. It sends a wrong message.

Ven, it does not matter what floor you are on, you have to take the staircase
and the cane should get you safely down.

It does not matter if it is a drill or even if you happen to get a wind of it,
we must participate in it with all seriousness. Many blind persons got safely
evacuated in twin towers on 9 11.

Well, if it is a drill only,
Probably I would do nothing!!!
Smile...

But, escapes without railings?
Building should not be permitted to violate such basic safety norms.

And, yes, I have been left to my own devices during such drills in office.
So, pull up the security officer for not ensuring your safe exit....
as UNCRPD and law mandate assistance in cases of emergencies.

Ultimately nothing would come out of such exercises and when there is actual
fire, the process of a blind persons safe survival would ultimately depend on
random help and pro activity.

Dear all,

How are you?
I wanted to ask a question.
That is when you are working in your office and when the fire drills
while you are eating your food then What will you do?
What are the steps that we can take?
For example/ In my office the Cafeteria is on the 9th floor.
I have to get out of the building.
What can I do?
You may say to use the steps but if the steps wont have railing then
What will you do?
And if the sighted person starts running and if he doesn't take you
then what will you do?
I just want some good sudjestions from the members of the list and I
am expecting a lot of sudjestions.
So hope you all can type your own experiences or something that you know.

With regards,

Phen Varghese
