Working with ophthalmologists, helping to establish a research fellowship, coordinating and disseminating a campaign of RTI requests and much more - your skills will be both utilised and developed and your work will be stretching and rewarding. Job description Job title: Research and Communication Officer Salary: Rs. 18,000 - 25,000 (depending on experience) Deadline for submission: Thursday July 5th 2012 CONTEXT Score Foundation's mission is to inform, inspire and empower all persons with visual impairment in India to live independent and successful lives with equal access to opportunity and services. We gather and disseminate knowledge and information on life with blindness through our portal 'Eyeway' which encompasses our radio shows, our helpdesks, our SMS alerts and our website. In doing so we reach the blind and visually impaired in over 30 cities throughout India, serving them with information and advice while also working to overcome discrimination and empower communities through both our grassroots and institutionally targeted advocacy activities. SUMMARY The primary role of the Research and Communication Officer will be to systematically identify, research, analyse and communicate information on life with blindness both internally and externally whilst also providing research support to the advocacy cell and delivering on independent research projects aimed at influencing change in the domain. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Identification and delivery of weekly research activities which systematically feed the information needs of the organisation and its channels 2. Regular production of written outputs for the website, intranet, newsletters and press releases 3. Assist in the development and delivery of a new communications strategy 4. Develop and maintain the website and intranet in pursuit of internal and external communication objectives 5. Assist in the coordination and submission of RTI applications to various public bodies 6. Act as an ambassador for Score Foundation through delivering presentations and meeting with external constituents as part of a programme of outreach and influence 7. Any other duties and responsibilities as required JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Essential: At least a second division degree in English, Journalism or any of the Social Sciences Desirable: A post-graduate degree in any related field Knowledge Essential: A strong familiarity with issues of disability in India including disability law, discriminatory practices and relevant policy debates Desirable: A detailed knowledge of the visual impairment domain including Government infrastructure and laws, discriminatory practices and policy debates Skills Essential . Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both English and Hindi with an ability to adapt tone, style and content to suit different target audiences . An ability to successfully identify, design and deliver desk and field-based quantitative and qualitative research projects . Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritising tasks effectively . Ability to effectively network and influence . A self-starter who is able to show initiative and take responsibility for their work . An excellent team-player Desirable . Comfortable with numbers and able to apply statistical analysis to quantitative data . A proven ability using communications to increase the reach and effectiveness of an NGO .
