Hi When you load NVDA, can you here the ascending Piano sound? If yes, explore your synthesizer dialog box to check if you've accidentally selected 'No Speech' (by pressing ctrl+insert+s). Pressing the Home key, for example, should take you to a speech synthesizer other than 'No Speech' (although you'll need to press enter to confirm your new selection). Dunno.
