Windows 7 Keyboard Essentials & Dolphin SuperNova Hot Keys Overview Nearly all the tasks you tackle in Windows can also be accomplished using only the keyboard. And, often when you do use the keyboard to complete those tasks you regularly do, you will find yourself being more productive in your work. Keyboard Commands Keyboard commands for menus Menu Bar Commands Press Move focus to the menu bar ALT Move focus across the menu bar LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW Open the menu item that has focus DOWN ARROW or ENTER Move to and open a corresponding menu ALT + underlined letter Move through an open menu DOWN ARROW or UP ARROW Open a sub-menu RIGHT ARROW or ENTER Close a sub-menu LEFT ARROW or ESCAPE Select a menu item ENTER Keyboard commands for dialog boxes Dialog Box Commands Press Move to the next control TAB Move to the previous control SHIFT + TAB Click a button, toggle a check box or select an option (RADIO BUTTON) SPACEBAR Select the active button (the button with the outline) ENTER Cancel ESCAPE Move directly to a control ALT + underlined letter Open the next tab in a multi-tab dialog box CONTROL + TAB Move to the previous tab in a multi-tab dialog box CONTROL + SHIFT + TAB SuperNova Speak Keys for menus and dialog boxes Following are some SuperNova hot keys you might find useful when navigating dialog boxes, menus and Windows. Speak Key Commands Desktop - Default hot key set Laptop - Universal hot key set Read focus (multikey) NUMPAD 0 CAPS LOCK + UP ARROW Read Control (multikey) NUMPAD PERIOD (*) No Assignment Describe Shortcut key (multikey) LEFT SHIFT + NUMPAD PERIOD CONTROL + CAPS LOCK + LEFT ARROW Where Am I? NUMPAD 7 CAPS LOCK + PAGE UP Read window (multikey) NUMPAD 9 CAPS LOCK + P Additional focus information LEFT SHIFT + NUMPAD 0 CONTROL + CAPS LOCK + UP ARROW Note that (*) No Assignment suggests: In this SuperNova Hot Key Set there is no hot key assigned to this command. You can assign your own keyboard shortcut to this command by doing the following: . Press LEFT CONTROL + SPACEBAR. The SuperNova Control Panel opens. . Press ALT + G. The "General" menu opens. . DOWN ARROW to "Keyboard and Hot Keys" and RIGHT ARROW. A sub-menu opens. . DOWN ARROW to "Hot Keys" and press ENTER. The "Hot Keys" dialog box opens. The focus is in the "Command Set" list. . Use the Arrow Keys to select "Speak Keys". Next, TAB to the "Command" list and select "Control". . TAB to the "Add Key" button and press SPACEBAR. A dialog box opens. Use the options in this dialog box to choose the keyboard combination you want to use. Note, if the hot key you select conflicts with an existing SuperNova hot key then a warning message will appear when you choose the "OK" button. At this point you can choose to use the hot key you have chosen or cancel and go back and select an alternative key combination.
