I have been discussing mentoring with the Moderator. We need some of the senior members to take personal interest. We could ban this person from the list for discussing crack but is this the solution? I have suggested to the Moderator that such mistakes are normally made by new members. So it is for those who introduced this member to the group to pick up the phone and speak with him. Maybe someone who knows him can explain or someone from the same city/town could do the job. Merely writing on this group that he is not allowed to write this and banning him are not solutions. Sarcastic comments though funny are not required. Sending the guidelines of the group is also not the answer so a little bit of effort from the group members on personal note would be good. A lot of you would remember that I have called you personally after some mail from you and explained to you in detail a few issues.
I too started my first email to the list more than 10 years ago by making a mistake. Also I do not think we should all be moderators so please don't write to him on the group email. I have done the job only when specifically asked to by the Moderator and when he was travelling.
