Subject: Opportunity for young people to Join VSO ICS programme

Apologies for Cross Posting - PLEASE CIRCULATE WIDELY

VSO India would request your support in helping us reach out to talented and
competent young individuals who would be interested in taking the lead in
building one of our youth run and led programmes, the International Citizen
Service.

International Citizen Service (ICS) is a 3 month international volunteering
programme that aims at building mutual respect and understanding among young
people and facilitates the process of becoming active citizens in an
increasingly global world. In India the ICS programme is implemented by VSO
India, a development organisation that seeks to foster partnerships with
organisations and people in order to channel the spirit of volunteerism
towards development goals of health, education, livelihood and disability.
The programme involves working with young people from the United Kingdom for
a period of three months, while living in a rural community in India.
The time period for the programme would be March 31, 2014 - June 30, 2014.

A learning opportunity for young people

ICS offers an opportunity to learn by experience about the diversity of
peoples' lives within the global community, develop knowledge, skills and
values. The programme will provide you with the opportunity to engage with
critical, social and developmental issues first hand and contribute to the
learning and development of a cross cultural team.
We are looking for a highly motivated young person, who can work with a
diverse group of young people, is well organised and is up for the challenge
of a highly intense experience.
Structure of the programme:
The programme is structured around five 'core components'.
. Counterpart Pairs: Each volunteer has one counterpart from the
United Kingdom with whom they shall live. They may also have another
counterpart with whom they work.
. Host communities: The volunteers live and work in a rural/non-urban
Indian community that is new to all of them.
. Host homes: Each pair of volunteers will be staying with a family in
the host community. Just as we look for diversity in our volunteers and
communities, we also encourage variety in our host homes.
. Work placements: Work placements are structured such that the
volunteers are able to have maximum take away about the community and its
issues and at the same time make a positive and practical contribution to
community initiatives.
. Educational activity days (EADs): Usually held once a week, EADs
provide the volunteers with an opportunity to come together and engage in
active learning about community development issues affecting India as a
whole. Each week, different counterpart pairs run the sessions.

For this programme the applicant must:
Be an Indian national
Between the ages of 21 - 25 years
Is comfortable conversing in both Hindi and English
