hi, There are two lookups. vLookup and hLookup. it is to find the particular value with a reference of an item in two tables. vLookup for vertical searching and hLookup for horizontal search. Take an example: you have an excel table sheet one with country name in column a and the capital in column b. Assume that this table contains all countries of the world. and has a data from a1 to b200
Now in sheet number 2, if you just type the name of a country in column say c1; and if you desire let excel automatically write the capital of that country in cell d1 In this case, you can use vLookup command. in sheet2, cell d1; you have to write the formula: =vlookup(c1, sheet1!a1:b200,2) now if you change the name of the country in cell c1 of sheet 2, the corresponding name of the capital will be written in cell d1 of sheet2. No change The value of d1 is looked insheet 1 and written at the cell containing the lookup formula. Enjoy. For further more, read help.
